The Jewish State became a reality over a period of nearly 55 years. A complicated process involving the philosophy of the emigrants and Jewish leadership from Europe and Russia, the impact of World War One and the British empire, the reaction of Palestinians and the Arab countries of the Middle East, and world war 2 and the emergence of the United States as the world power. In addition to exploring that history, the class will also explore and discuss the changing philosophy and policies of the Israeli Government from 1948 to 2018 in the context of the issues effecting the current and future direction of the country.
