The Bureau of Jewish Education of Greater Phoenix is expanding its ACT social action program in a new way with SECOND ACT led by Linda Feldman and Rebecca Lammersen. The SECOND ACT is both a social action group and a support network for Jewish single parent families. This program offers a wide range of programming for parents and children of all ages in addition to providing single Jewish parents a place to connect, collaborate and realize their common interests. ACT connotes Action, Connect and Think.
Because there is this unmet need in our community that has existed for a long time, the BJE wants to reach out and support single parents and their children. Extending a welcoming Jewish hand and providing fun and meaningful activities and opportunities are the goals. NO SHABBOS CANDLE STANDS ALONE, another aspect of this venture, will be the overriding theme with Shabbat dinners and Havdallah gatherings along with many other events. Most programs will be held on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month at 3:30 with the BJE’s classrooms as a gathering place and then often expanding to other venues and locales and days.
The BJE has always had a special interest in helping families in a myriad of ways with scholarships to Israel, Hebrew High School, Care-a-Van, Jewish Marriage University, Jewish Baby University and Baby & Me Shabbat to name just a few.
Rebecca Lammersen, a single parent herself, is raising two daughters and brings much compassion and knowledge with a wide range of skills to the BJE. In addition to her technical skills, Rebecca is an experienced business owner, an expert yoga instructor, columnist and speaker.
Linda Feldman, creator of both the BJE’s Jewish Marriage and Jewish Baby University, has always had a special place in her heart for families and has brought this concern and empathy to the forefront with this new programming.
